The 700-bed center treats approximately 300,000 patients a year. ==History== The foundation of CRRC was initiated with the support of Deng Pufang, the son of Deng Xiaoping, who suffered a traumatic spinal injury during the days of the Cultural Revolution. Along with a group of physicians and important persons he promoted the concept of rehabilitation which was not yet established in China. They managed to get support from the authorities. Construction started in 1986 and was finished within 18 months, officially opening on October 28, 1988. CRRC became the very first rehabilitation hospital in PR China. The Center got international attention and received support from Japan, Canada and Germany among others.
